The Opus Group is Growing!

Chris Westerman and Rob Wilkes have joined The Opus Group of Virginia as equity partners effective June 28, 2023. Along with Forrest Williams, they will be the leaders of the seven-person firm based in Virginia Beach, VA.

Westerman has over 18 years of experience. He is a second-generation advisor, following in his father’s footsteps. A Certified Financial Planner and graduate of the University of Florida, Westerman will focus on the firm’s investment strategy and financial planning capabilities.

Wilkes brings 10 years of experience in the financial industry. A graduate of Lynn University, he was previously a Division I college basketball coach and his father is in the College Basketball Hall of Fame as the long-time coach at Stetson University. Rob will focus on individual wealth management and the firm’s corporate retirement plan business as well as championing the firm’s marketing efforts.

Williams remains the firm’s Managing Partner overseeing day-to-day operations as well as focusing on individual wealth management and corporate retirement plans.

The Opus Group will manage and service over $300m of combined advisory and brokerage assets (as of October 2022) and have a combined 60 years of wealth management experience.

The definition of Opus is any artistic work—pretty simple. We took a little broader look at this concept. Many people may remember the 1995 movie ‘Mr. Holland’s Opus’ starring Richard Dreyfus. A high school music teacher spent his entire life composing a symphony and at the end of his career, many of his former students came back to perform his piece. In essence, it was the coming together of his life’s work—both the symphony and the students he had been such a profound influence on—a double entendre of sorts.
